Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Acropolis

Acropolis

The Acropolis, or Sacred Rock, is synonymous with Athens.

It is home to the Parthenon and several other ancient Greek monuments built under Pericles in 5 BC by what was then the most advanced civilisation in the world.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, this is a must to visit while in Athens.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Acropolis Museum

New Acropolis Museum

Built during the 1990s and open since 2009, the modern Acropolis Museum was commissioned as the existing museum could no longer house the growing volume of archaeological treasures discovered on the site.

Its exhibits cover the period from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Benaki Museum

Benaki Museum

The Benaki Museum has several sites, but the main one is the former Benaki family mansion in central Athens.

It houses a diverse collection, including Islamic art from across the Near East, Chinese and pre-Colombian art, as well as a particularly complete and important collection of Greek artefacts from ancient times to the early 20th century.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Syntagma Square

Syntagma Square

Syntagma (Constitution) Square is the hub of Athens, close to many sights and transport links.

The square, named for the Greek constitution granted after a popular uprising in 1834, is dominated by the imposing neoclassical Old Royal Palace, which has housed the Greek Parliament since 1934.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Kolonaki

Kolonaki

Kolonaki is an upscale neighbourhood and one of the main shopping areas in Athens, with many fashion and designer boutiques and jewellery stores.

It is also home to a variety of museums and art galleries.

Here one can find a big variety of all kind of restaurants and cafes.

The choices are numerous.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Monastiraki

Stroll through the streets of Monastiraki

Shopping in Athens is a favorite pastime for tourists and Athenians and one of the best places to buy just about anything is the Flea Market at Monastiraki.

On Sunday morning it is the best time to visit Monastiraki flea market for a jumble of curios, from books to paintings, clothes to trinkets.

Afterward, cross Athinas Street to Psiri, where interlocking streets secret away a wealth of galleries and vintage stores.

This is certainly a unique experience and a way to see a different face of Athens.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Athens Concert Hall

Athens Concert Hall

The Athens Concert Hall is located on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, just a few minutes walk from our hotel.

It was inaugurated in 1991 with two halls. Since then it has been expanded with two more halls and now has a total of four halls: two large and two smaller ones.

The Hall has optimal facilities for opera performances, with operas being presented every season.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - Plaka

The romantic experience: Open-air movie experience at Cine Paris in Plaka

This is a unique experience that one can find in Athens. Cine Paris is one of the oldest open-air cinemas in Athens, and it’s still one of the most popular cinemas for the locals thanks to its fantastic location in Plaka, facing the Parthenon. It is open from May to September, screening mostly contemporary movies.

So many reasons to visit it: The beautiful view of the Parthenon, the traditional building with the old movie posters, the incredible feeling of watching a film while enjoying a beer and a snack under the Greek sky, while marveling at the lighted Parthenon.

The walk before (or after) around the streets of Plaka.

This is definitely an unforgettable experience.

Divani Caravel Hotel - Experience - National Observatory

Star gazing at the National Observatory of Athens

Let us take you to the stars!

The visitors’ center of the National Observatory of Athens is a beautiful building.

During the summer months it conducts private evening tours in English offering the public the opportunity to peer through the 8 meter dome of the Doridis telescope and to enjoy the Athenian sky from the Hill of the Nymphs, opposite the Acropolis.

The Doridis refracting telescope was built by the French company P.F. Gautier in 1902. It is housed in a building designed by Ernst Ziller, a short distance from the Sinas building.

It was used for the first time at the eclipse of the sun on 30th August, 1905.
